In December 2025, MV PANCON BRIGHT discovered a significant amount of metallic debris in the main engine lubricating oil filter. MTB Engineering Service conducted an inspection and found that bearing shells No. 1–5 had suffered abnormal wear and damage. The vessel confirmed that the correct lubricating oil was being used and that the lubrication system was operating normally.
The bearing damage was suspected to be related to the quality or service performance of the bearing material. This case highlights the importance of using high-quality bearings and selecting suppliers with proven experience in the marine industry, together with regular filter inspection to detect early signs of abnormal wear.
Early detection, quality components, and experienced marine suppliers are key to preventing major engine failures.
